What is a mammogram?

The test for breast screening involves a mammogram, which is a low-dose X-ray of the breasts. Breast lumps may contain denser (more solid) tissue which blocks more X-rays and can be seen on the image. You might be interested to know that lower doses of radiation can be used now than in previous years, as the images created are digital, which requires less radiation than film to create high-quality images.
